Carisbrooke Castle Carisbrooke Castle (which is actually on the Isle of Wight and not in Hampshire)was the residence of the Governors of the Island for centuries. King Charles I was held here before being taken to London for trial and execution. His daughter Princess Elizabeth died here. It is now owned by English Heritage and is open to the public.
